Roll Cages for classic open sports cars

1960 semi-lightweight (i.e. not aluminium) E-type
historic racer. Full rebuild by Pearsons Engineering with roll cage by ARRC. This car is one of the original E-type racers driven by Bruce McLaren and David Hobbs. |

General lay out showing bolt-in door bars. Front down tube is not an ideal shape but has to bend forward to allow driver access. |

| Roll bar fitted permanently to Jaguar XK150. Designed to fit unobtrusively inside original hood and allow it to be put up and down easily. Built to FIA specification for limited competition use. |

Cage under construction for a Lightweight
E-type. Much of the middle and back of the car is aluminium so additional
fabrication is necessary to ensure solid foundations for the cage. This picture shows the general layout of the main loop with back braces and centre support. This cage is made from 4130 chrome moly steel. |

On this mount for the back brace on the
rear parcel shelf it was possible to make a matching support to fit inside
the boot. All mounting plates were finally bonded and riveted into place after the cage had been fully welded, |
![]() | This E type cage is bolt-in rather than the welded cage at the top of the page. General layout is the same but back braces and diagonal go to parcel shelf rather than through it. |
![]() | Mounts for main loop are welded to shaped plates which in turn are bolted to plates welded to the floor. |
![]() | Supports under the parcel shelf transfer load to the chassis, once again plates are bolted to inserts added to the floor. |
![]() | MG Midget cage designed to fit within soft top and provide complete safety structure. |
![]() | Main loop fully braced back to wheel arches with diagonal and with shoulder height cross tube. |
